What's your opinion on blocking competitor ad clicks in Google Ads? Should I use a 3rd party click fraud vendor?

I've been in this business for 14 years and I have largely found click fraud vendors to be full of FUD (Fear, Uncertainty & Doubt). They flood the market with FUD, and then go out of business because advertisers don't care. Not saying that it's always the case, but it's been the case with most click fraud vendors.

Bottom line for me is that if you manage your campaigns well, you can become profitable. If you manage campaigns poorly and let a bunch of junk in (especially on GDN), then you will have a negative ROI.

So manage campaigns well first, then worry about click fraud when you are looking to squeeze out minor productivity gains.

It would do more harm than good to include lessons about click fraud in the Google Ads Certification Course.
